Assessment of freshwater fish farms for the identification of the geographical areas harbouring antimicrobial resistance

  15 March 2024

The study reveals that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in freshwater fish farms in Uttar Pradesh, India, is primarily due to Aeromonas, an indicator organism. The research found higher AMR in district D for ceftazidime, cefotaxime, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and cefoxitin. District D also had the highest number of MDR strains, AmpC, and ESBL producers. The study identified two clusters of Aeromonas species contributing to AMR, suggesting the need for spatial assessment of AMR in aquaculture.
